Her eyes traveled down to her shoes in the wet grass. She honestly didn't know what he wanted her to do. Smile? Frown? So she waited until he brought his attention back to the burial service.
He gave her one of those looks. The look of pain. It was alien, because Chadwick never relied on her for anything. But since they decided on a having relationship together why not? Why not have someone to lean on for once?

"Your so silly sometimes," she smiled. Kellan continued bumping his head against the wall.
"You take a really long time to get ready." "That's because we don't leave until seven." The birds outside began to sing their afternoon rituals. Slowly, setting in the background, the sun beamed inside the house. The front room lit up in yellow and orange colors, bursting with beauty. Tilda, still grinning, looked out onto the wooded area. The view was beyond magnificent. Mountains stretched as far as the eye could see. Fluffy white clouds floated in the bluest sky she'd ever witnessed. Kellan stood by her side. "We could ditch," "Malina's been planning this meeting for a long time. You know how much it means to her," she said without taking her eyes off the landscape. "Besides this is your first meeting since Torren, I think it'll be good for you," "What are you my shrink now?" "No. Just someone who cares," her gaze found his. "Wasn't your wife a shrink?" "She is my son's mother, not my wife but yes. She was. But I think they don't go by that name anymore" Tilda beamed. " See you been doing you're reading," "Well, it takes a while to catch up. Years and years of information are just getting to back me. Give me a break." "Has she spoken to you yet?" the subject suddenly became more serious. "Or is she still keeping her silence?" "She'll actually be at the meeting," Kellan choked. "Were you planning to tell me or?" "Or what? You need to put on you're makeup or something?" she teased. "Look, there's going to be a lot of familiar faces there that are willing to help with the case. So brace yourself. And get ready for a lot of condolences." DISCLAIMER: SOME BAD WORDS/ ITS SHORT
Something told her not to come this way. That little voice in the back of her mind was yapping up a storm before she was heading out and now she knew why. Malina just wished she saw him before he noticed her. Chadwick had been curiously eyeing construction workers at play. Being from the thirties it sparked his interest to see how recent factories were being built. But as soon as he heard the clicking of her heels, down the stone walkway, his full attention drew to her. Malina didn't know what to say to him. Nothing at all, was her first choice. So she'd rolled with it .It wasn't like she was the one who started the argument. Slowly, her hands fit in her coat's pockets. She carried on as if he was a complete stranger. "Want to murder someone with me?" he mocked. Malina rolled her eyes. " I was teasing. Come on." he pestered." You shouldn't walk out here in the dark alone. Evidently you're wanted by the government." Malina frowned as his shoulder bumped against hers. "Did I stutter?" "When?" "When I said fuck off. Or are you just that out dated to the saying? Because I can catch you up," "I believe that someone's been watching you on you little strolls home." he whispered, ignoring the rude comment. "Yeah. Like you?" she laughed "Please I can handle myself." with a firm hold on her forearm Chadwick squinted in the distance. Something or someone was moving in one of the shop widows above them. "Stop," she hissed. "Someone's there," Malina glared upward. A man with a bakers cap spun around his home, with the biggest smile on his face, dancing to upbeat music. His lips mouthed the words perfectly. "You're ridicules," with a yank, she began down the street again. " You want to stop then? With this whole knowing each other thing?" "Your not going to. This is your life Chadwick. There's nothing left for you," it sounded cold but it was true. Everything that he used to know had already weathered away. His family, friends, home. All of it was gone. Cameron studied Malina with a keen fix. Her breath wavered, her fingers shook. She never would have guessed the things on the paper were actually true. All the trials Torren endured. The experiments. In one particular picture she witnessed a frail teen in the center of a large white room. Corpses of animals scattered all around him, clearly supplied for a mealtime test. Faded blood stained Torren's horrific expression while a lifeless young pig laid at his feet. She held her breath for a few seconds, "God," Cameron nodded. "That's what we were working for," " If this doesn't win it. I don't know what will." she matched his stare." I appreciate your participation," "There's plenty more were that came from," Cameron's bag, on the opposite seat, was filled to the brim with the government secrets. From each year Torren had an experiment it was documented by the head doctors and scientist on board. After the year ended, it either received a red or green mark. The red was if the subject could not past the trial. The green if the subject did. Torren was their most successful in all their studies. Out of the twenty years he was tried, he made fifth-teen green checks. It was something no one in the program had done. Torren had the physicality. He had the drive. He was considered as map to man, and how much they could endure. "You'll be in danger if I use this. So I'll se if I can get you a place to stay that'll be monitored," her attention angled to her laptop. "Will there be a service? You know? For Torren?" "After the trail. Yes," " I want to be there." he stated. Malina understood why. It was no secret that Torren never liked Cameron. Mostly because of their romantic relationship that just so happened to be after theirs. Cameron wanted to pay his respects. He needed everything to end peacefully. " I have no control over who will be there. You'll have to take it up with Kellan." "I understand," he began to rise. "Thank you," Before he touched the door knob Malina couldn't help but reply. "No. Thank you." DISCLAIMER: SOME BAD WORDS/ BECAUSE OF THIS LONG NOVEL I WILL WRITE CAMERON'S AND MALINA SEPRETLY.
Her nose awoke her, sniffing the air for whatever was cooking. It was something she'd never smelt before. Her stomach moaned in hunger. Rolling over in his bed, his scent quickly subsided the other. Ashley had a choice. To lay under the covers and be forced to remember him, or get her butt up. She choose get up. Kellan continued stirring something in a boiling pot over the stove as she made her way to him. Not wanting to alarm him, Ashley stood glancing over his shoulder. "Morning," He felt her cool breath and smirked. "Morning. Did you sleep well?" she watched his hands grab the knife to continue chopping the remaining vegetables. "Yes," the sun fell through the window onto his blonde curls. His grey hair shined like starlight. Ashley couldn't imagine waking up to this every morning. Seeing those fond blue eyes, gazing at her with longing love, instead of small talk intrusion. Not that she was complaining about her present husband. Etain was wonderful. He was trying. That counted for something, right? "It's about ready," a few more vegetables surfaced to the top of the soup. "Take a seat," Ashley pulled a chair at the small table that was already set. Kellan, careful not to splash her, angled the her bowl in place. "Thank you," Ashley hummed."Do you mind if I ask you questions? Across from her Kellan picked up his spoon. "No," "You know about Torren yes?" she tried her best to ease it in slowly. This was what she was here for. The truth. Even though Ashley wasn't going to ask the questions on the form, she still wanted to twist them to here liking. "Chadwick came by a week before you and told me" his voice went low. " I haven't spoken to you about this. And I wanted to say I'm sorry," Kellan stuffed a spoon full of soup in his mouth. "It's fine Ashley. Let's not talk about it," he said after a large gulp. "Last night I was re reading the questions, and it suggest someone was stocking him. Do you know anything about that?" "I didn't speak to him. He never showed after he found out I was alive." "I see," her fingertips tapped her glass. " The way he was murdered-" "Stop it," Kellan's jawline became evident. " Do they not have enough information?" he laughed. "Torren helped me with the entire project. He believed and fought for the same thing I did. He saved countless lives and his death is still not enough for people to wake up? Hell, my death wasn't enough," "That's why I'm here. To give him justice," "No. You're here because you feel guilt. You feel bad for things ending on a bad note." Ashley crossed her arms. "That's not true." Kellan stood up, his arms reached across the table to collect the dishes. And just like that he tossed them in the sink with a loud CLANK. Water splattered on to the floor soaking the rug. Ashley stood adjusting her shirt. " I don't like how things ended between the two of us.And I do regret ignoring him for trying to protect you.He was tired of people hurting you. And I get it. But let me do something for him. Let me ask these stupid questions so he doesn't go out like this," Kellan started towards her. Now face to face, Ashley could feel his body heat rising. "He wanted this for us," he held her arm up to exploit her ring. "He wanted us to be happy." Ashley glared to the ground shamefully. "I don't love you like that anymore," she whispered. He withdrew his hand while dropping her wrist. "Then don't come to my house with that bullshit. If you want justice for Torren, leave me alone." There was a part of her that wanted to cry. There was another part of her that wanted to hug him. He was out there alone, and had lost everyone. His wife, his child, and now his br0ther. Kellan was at her last straw. "I don't think I meant it like that," Kellan backed away from her. " Can you hear me out?" "What?" he snapped. " I made a promise to Etain. Like you made a promise to me, a long time ago. I have to keep it." she started. " Me saying I don't love you is a lie and you know it. I'm not just going to stop. I want you as bad as you've wanted me since I walked through that door. So, don't fault me for my mistakes. Because I've stood behind yours, and I still do." Kellan's nose ruffled. "What do they want me to answer?' DISCLAIMWE: ITS GETTING LONGER I MIGHT AS WELL WRITE A NOVEL "Are you sure?" Ashley rushed out of the car handing the driver the money. "I'm positive. Thank you, and keep the change." The storm had picked up much more since she arrived. Dark clouds began to flood the sky like waves, the wind sung a horrific song in the open air. Ashley hurried down the small dirt path towards the quant cottage in the distance, silently praying to herself that he was home. Once she reached the door she noticed a gruff figure pulling tarp over a nestle of plants on the far side of the yard. It was Kellan alright. She hugged herself and sighed. "Kellan!" she tried over the wind. It was no use. Sometimes she forgot he was deaf. He carried on with his work, securing each side quickly. His fingers planted themselves in the last slope. No way he was going to let his food suffer through another storm. Not this time. After he wiped the dirt on his jeans he jogged for the house. Ashley, soaking wet, looked away from his apologetic eye. "Greene?" he slipped his jacket off, wrapping it around her shivering body. "Come in. I'm sorry I didn't know you were out here." Ashley stepped in to the dimly lit house with her eyes focusing on the man she believed was dead. This wasn't the first time she thought that. Kellan rushed in the kitchen pouring something in a small mug. "It's fine," she lied. Kellan held the cup out with a stern look on his face. " Doesn't sound like it," taking the offer, her lips swept over the rim. " Who told you?" " Does it matter?" His brow arched. " I don't like being shot at." "Your safe," she promised. She couldn't help but look around herself. His house was beautiful. And not to mention cozy. The amount of deep reds gave a memorizing mood. The large rug in the sitting area was red, the drapes, linin, and a few throw pillows placed on the couch. There something romantic about it. "Can I help you with something?" he noticed her curiosity. "Yeah. Its about what's going on with you. The younger you" she added, "Have you been watching T.V. lately or?" "Not exactly," he gestured to the small space. "But whatever you need I'm plausible of giving it to you." Ashley took a seat on the couch, her body relaxed from the sudden warmth in the air. Kellan's fingers brushed her skin as he swapped his wet jacket for a warm blanket. He was still drenched. The single bag she carried slumped on her leg as pulled out a few loose files. "There just questions," she flipped the sheet over. Honestly, this was her first time looking at them. She hoped they were just questions. Kellan craned his neck to get a quick view of the logo,on the paper, but Ashley swiped it quickly at her angle. The house went dead quiet as she went on scanning over the questions. If she could say it aloud she would, but he'd only cox her into letting him see them. The questions were crazy. Like crazy, crazy. Most of them personal, others were just too much. She couldn't read these. "You know what screw the questions." Ashley dazed in his handsome stare. "I'll take back my own Intel, okay?" Kellan nodded. "Sure," "How you been?" She had to start somewhere. "Fine," "Are you sure? You're soaked." Kellan shrugged. "Doesn't make me not fine." The very moment he noticed the wedding ring on her finger was the exact moment Ashley noticed his was gone. Her mind began pinpoint when he could off taken it off. While Kellan mused over who her partner was. "Congratulations," Ashley curled her fingers. "Oh, thanks," "Anymore questions?" he said sounding a bit agitated. Ashley tried to not make it about them. Too many bad things followed the two. Still, she hated the constant strain. The underlining regret they both secretly held for one another. "Are you happy?" "Define happy." " At peace," she smiled. "With everything around you? Are you content?" "A human can never be content. So going by those guidelines, no. I am not happy," Ashley felt her stomach turn for the billionth time that day. "Are you okay?" she tried. "Okay as in enough to cope and strive for contempt." Kellan's blue stare lit up, "Yes. Yes, I am." That godforsaken thing had been ringing for the past five minutes, and he was at his ends wit. With the agitation that could fill a cup, Etain turned over, to check the caller ID.
Unknown was an odd name. "Hello?" " Good morning. Is Mrs. Greene available?" a women's voice asked.I need to speak with her regarding a serious case," "I'm her husband," he stated flatly. "Who's this?" "My name is Tilda Valcon. I need to ask your wife a few questions." Etain pulled himself up in a seated position. His stare darted towards the cracked bathroom door. "The case evolving Kellan Lutz?" "Yes, sir. If she is unavailable now, I can call back." "No, no. I'll get her for you. Hold on please." Ashley, in the shower, covered her waist length hair in shampoo. Her fingers scissor the product efficiently, through and through. Warm droplets splash over her neckline, creating a soft smile on her lips. He invaded her thoughts again. Every time she came in to the shower she found herself thinking about him.The last moment they'd been together intimately, just so happened to be in the there. He pulled her close to him, whispering in her ear; despite the fact that they were alone. His words soothed her. His touch felt safe. With a quick yank, Etain pulled the curtain open. Her blue fix narrowed towards him. "You got an important call," he mouthed, not noticing her snap out of her fantasy. Ashley knew Etain. He'd start reading her if she didn't respond. So very quickly she took the phone, backing in the left corner of the shower, careful not to get it wet. "Hello?" Etain disappeared in the steam. "Mrs. Greene. I have a few questions for you regarding the Lutz case," Ashley was familiar with this voice. " Um, yes. Could you hold for another second? Sorry," A second was more like a few minutes. She was trying to at least pull a towel over her body. Something about talking on the phone while she was naked made her feel odd. "I'm back. Sorry about that again." " I appreciate your time, Mrs. Greene. Are you well caught up with the case?" Ashley felt a tinge in her gut. She was getting to the point. "Yes, I am. Is this about a funeral service for Torren?" " No. This is actually about information that has been enclosed to us. Us meaning you're sister and I. You see, Mr. Lutz is in the time of grieving and we are trying to make things as easy as possible for him." Ashley nodded. " We would like you to gather this Intel for us. If you don't mind?" "Yes. No problem. I mean, it's the least I can do,' she bit her bottom lip. "Is Kellan doing okay?" " I believe is doing much better," Ashley knew whomever this person was, she was trying to be careful with her words. Kellan was not okay. And there was nothing wrong with that. His brother had just passed. "What would you like me to do?" "I have already hyperlinked you the address you need to travel to, to collect all we need. If there are any problems please call me back." "Alright. Thank you," As soon as the phone call ended Ashley pulled up her email. With one dab, her eyes were sent scanning the location. Africa. "Great," she whispered. "Well, this is boring," Tilda grabbed her mug of tea. " You two broke up?"
Malina blinked once again. " I really don't know," Lately it had been awfully quiet since Eren had left. Malina could admit she missed him. He was very annoying at times, but he keep things innocent, even sweet sometimes. Tilda rolled her sleeve to glance at her watch. " You're pretty but I can't stare at you all day," Malina eyed her as she pulled her bag over her shoulder. "Want to come get a drink with me?" "Nope. I need to finish up some work here. Have fun though," "When's the last time you drunk?" her nose twitched in curiosity. "Honestly?" "Yes, honestly," "Last night," Tilda started towards her. "It was just one and I went to bed afterwards. You people and you're alcohol. Always so shocked when someone else drinks it." "I just thought you needed a break. I'll take you to one of those really expensive bars so if either of us score a one night stand, and get pregnant, we'll take half of that fat check he's making as a doctor." A burst of laughter sung through Malina's throat. "That's pretty funny, but I'll pass. I don't want to be holding someone's child in my stomach anytime soon." And just like that Cameron Lars appeared in the door frame. Tilda swore she heard her own heart stop beating. "Sorry to interrupt," he scratched the back of his head. "I was given clearance by Gordon to speak to you on behalf of the case," "Of course. Come in," she felt her face growing red. Did he hear anything they said? "Goodnight," Tilda smirked at Cameron on her way out. "What do you have for me?" she settled at her desk, trying to look as professional as possible. "Medical records of Torren Castro. The real medical records. These were kept in private places in case of some sort of government outbreak happened. Each doctor was given a number of files to protect." she flipped through a few pages. Just by seeing the photographs and quick summaries, she knew she had something big. This single piece of evidence could very well be the win of the case. "Dr. Lars how long will you be in town?" DISCLAIMER : SOME BAD WORDS
His cheeks were puffy, and his eyes were red. She could see his 24 hour absence card sticking out of his pocket. " Are you going anywhere?" she asked gently. Kellan squinted, straining to see her lips in the shadows. " No where to go," Usually, Tilda wasn't an emotional person. She had her boundaries set up like a fortress. Although, the stress of work today was getting to her. Kellan was getting to her. "You're not alone," she seated beside him. "I understand loss. It feels as if it'll never go away, but eventually it subsides." He didn't reply. His eyes only focused on the flames ahead of him. The quiet chirps of the bugs grew louder as the two sat in silence. It was a beautiful night. The thought of someone passing on such a day made it all the more upsetting. Tilda's hand swayed underneath his arm intertwining their fingers. "Hold on a little more for us." he didn't hear her, although her breath on his shoulder was comforting enough. "Just a little longer. We'll meet you halfway." *** "Who's going to be next? Huh? Eren?" Malina furiously shook her head. "You're acting like I have control over the entire situation," "You have control on this side of the situation. Did you see what talking can do? Words kill people here. Words, Malina. I can't work for that anymore," "So when I need you, you can't work? But when I don't work you beg the shit out of me." her hands rose dramatically, " Oh, Malina could you do this? Could you do that?Could you help me murder someone? Fuck off Chadwick," Chadwick pulled his bag off the floor. "Clearly you don't need me. You have everything under you control. Including your bountiful impressions." "Out," she pointed towards the door. With one last gesture Chadwick shot his middle finger towards her, while slamming the door. Malina eyed each one of them enter the room. She needed to deliver her message to the board before demanding new orders. Chadwick caught her wondering eye as he moved to back of the space. His face screamed stress and detachment, which was something she hadn't seen in a long time. He was blaming himself for Torren's death.
Eren, behind her, perked up at the sight of his father. The news shocked him more than anything. As strong and brave as Torren seemed a single accident could wipe any face from the earth. After everyone appeared settled enough, Malina took front and center. Her arms crossed as she gazed to the floor. "This is hard. Hearing something like that over radio was tough. And I know it was extremely frustrating for the people who went out there to retrieve him. So, I would like to thank you all ." Chadwick looked away. "This will not stop the investigation. We have enough evidence to add premeditated murder to the staggering charges the government face" she began circling the room. "Kellan Lutz will not be bothered in the time of mourning. He is accessed only to Miss. Valcon, Agent Aldemir, and I, myself." "What if I don't want access to Lutz,"Eren dug his fingers into the edge of Malina's desk. Just about everyone in the room gawked at Chadwick. He wasn't looking away anymore, he was challenging Malina, right there in the open. The reason the case was possible was because of the very women before him. And he was testing her. "Excuse me?" she started towards him. Heels clicking on the floor. "I don't want access to Lutz," he repeated. Tilda's eyebrow shot up. "Matter of fact I don't need access to anything. I'm an agent. I do field work not office work," "Agent Aldemir, I don't think I was asking if you wanted to be accessed. I stated that you were. If you have a problem with the case take it to Gordon." She eyed him so seriously it began to make a couple people shuffle there feet. After a few moments Malina turned back around. " Thank you everyone for your time," As people began leaving the room, Tilda moved to shut the doors. "Eren get your stuff we're leaving," "Can't handle it?" Malina mindlessly tossed a few papers in her trash. "Don't screw with me," Chadwick spat at her. "Something like this always happens. There's always some type of price someone pays," "Do you want to wait outside Eren?" Tilda sensed something was about to go down. She knew whenever her old roommate got frustrated her face got red, her brow arched, and there was no filter. "Sure," Eren politely complied. Before he completely disappeared he gave his father one last confused look. "Now you can have at it," Tilda said. |
