Her smile was kind, that’s why she stood out from the others. He was sure he’d seen her around. Her dark features, and her round face left quite the impression.
“They look…”
“Familiar,” Phillip finished, brushing his large hand across his chest. “These are our agents, sir.”
Gordon swallowed, “We have no agents on the field. That’s impossible.”
“You are correct,” Gordon pushed the file back across the table. His knuckles rode down his unshaven face.
There was a lot going on this week. And mysterious deaths added to the mix wouldn’t help. Gordon, without a doubt, would become accountable for everyone. Their families, and friends would be devastated if justice wasn’t served. Getting it done as soon as possible was the main goal.
“So, where do we start?” Gordon pulled a pen from his drawer. “Mexico?” he said jotting something.
“There’s more, sir.” Phillip stiffened in his stance. “These people that were found were not reported missing.”
Gordon slowly stood to his feet, with his fist digging in to his notepad. “What do you mean?”
“Our agents are safe, sir. These bodies aren’t there’s.”
As soon as the words fell from the lips of his partner, Gordon knew who’d at least have an ideal of what was going on. He knew who this all pointed to, but teetered with the thought of getting them on board. Turning this in to something big, was Gordon’s last wish. The world had already been through so much. Who was he to stir the pot?
“I will handle this.” Was all he said before raising his hand to the door. “Please.”
“But before I go,” Phillip hurried to open it, revealing three figures in the frame. “I have the team who’s currently handling the case.”
Gordon’s eyes automatically fell on the women, who spoke very clear. “My name is Agent Rukiya Diya, and I am lead investigator of this case.”
Gordon didn’t realize he was shaking her hand, until she let go. “This is Eric Marshall, and Nanji Jang.” She continued. “They were with me when six of your agents had been found dead.”
“Nice to meet you,” Gordon breathed. “I believe I owe you all a thank you, for responding so quickly.”
Nanji crossed his arms, after nonchalantly studying his surroundings.
“We responded six weeks late. That’s fast to you?” Eric asked.
“Six weeks?”
Rukiya eyed Gordon as he snatched a lone file from his desk. She assumed it held all the information that it took them months to collect. For some reason, it being compressed like that agitated her.
“I would like to keep this case.” She stated, “The authority I work under will allow it, if I get assistance from your branch.”
Gordon, still flipping through the files, landed on crime scene pictures. “It snowed in Mexico?” he murmured.
“The air’s contaminated and the weathers fucked.” Nanji responded. “The natural reactions in America are off the charts.” He paused. “Was anyone from this branch conducting studies over there?”
“I’m afraid America’s government still owns the land. If you don’t work for them, you get no access.” Gordon peered at the three. “You said they were found in Mexico, right?”
“They took the bodies to Mexico so they would be reported.” Rukiya admitted.
“Then what the hell were they doing in America?”
“That’s what we came to ask you.”
