Baby sat there watching Mommy sleep peacefully. Her arms were stretched out, reaching across the entire width of the bed. Baby used to try and stir her awake, but now that he was bigger, he understood that it was no use. Mommy woke only when she wanted to. Besides, he liked quite time to himself.
Baby picked himself up, standing over her with his hands placed on his hips. Only in underwear and a necklace, Baby opened his mouth as wide as the monster in the magic box.
"Roarrrrrrrrr" he shrieked, as loud his little mouth could. " I am a monster from outer space, and I have come to eat you."
This continued for ten minutes until Baby got tired in his throat pipe. He hopped off the mattress with a pop, and pounced towards little bowl on the kitchen table. Curious as a cat, he peered to see what Mommy had made him this new day.
Cereal! Baby loved cereal. And it was super-duper easy to make. All he needed was milk. Before he peeled the plastic from little bowl, Baby hurried to the fridge to look for milk. As always milk was in its usual place, as well as water, and eggs. It took him some time to settle in to the squeaky seat and eat, because Baby often got distracted. But eventually, he placed a big spoon full of Frosted Flakes in his mouth.
Some comic strip, that had been ripped out of a newspaper ages ago, was always Baby's go to read in the morning. Despite the deep rip in the far-right corner, Baby took each section at a time; whispering every word Mommy had ever told him it read.
" Mr. Strong swept his hand up to the citizens and said, " Be your own hero,"" he murmured, with a dribble of milk on his chin.
"Baby don't forget to drink your water,"
Mommy was swift this morning. So, swift Baby got his stomach to turn. "Mommy!" Baby cried.
"You scared my tummy." Mommy wrapped her arms around Baby, and kissed the back of his head.
"I'm sorry," she murmured, moving towards the fridge.
Mommy took water jug from the shelf. Then, she grabbed Baby's favorite cup, and poured a generous amount.
"You do not get up until you finish this. Okay?" Baby nodded. " After that we stretch."
Baby liked stretching. Whenever he put his arms high up to the roof, he spread his legs far apart. He mirrored what Mommy did. When she yawned, Baby yawned. When she jumped, Baby jumped.
"Four more." Mommy's voice was heavy because of the hopping. "Can you count for me?"
"One," Baby piped.
Mommy grinned down at her mushroom. Today was Baby's day. She always dedicated one day out of her very long, tiring week to him. A day where she would sleep all day, and stay awake all night. Her planner had been set, and no one would be visiting her anytime back at home.
Baby days usually consisted of learning and training. But today, she decided to make it pure fun. After the two took a rest from there short workout, Mommy pulled Baby onto her lap.
"So, today I've decided we should do something a little different. Mommy was thinking we could create a picture."
"A picture?" Baby looked at Mommy's chin.
"Yes. Like the ones in Mr. Strong," she grinned, pulling the comic strip off the edge of the table. "But we can make Mr. Strong do whatever we want."
"Like fight a dog!" Baby exclaimed.
"Yes! Like fight a dog," Baby's eyes shined as he studied the buff body of Mr. Strong.
"What about Agent 1901? Can we make a story out of him?"
Mommy's breathing slowed once the words resonated with her. "Where did you here that from?"
Baby pressed his hand on Mommy's breast. "Can I have some?" He whined.
Scooping him up and around, so that she could gaze into his eyes, Mommy's brows rose. "Baby where did you here that from?"
"You talked about it in a dream." He told. "You say a lot of things. Now, can I have some?"
" You just eat. And I've told you before, there is no more" she intoned. Baby balled up his cheeks like he'd seen Captain Kid do it.
"Your lying," Baby pushed her face away from his. “Heroes never lie, only villains do.”
"You’re a big boy. Big boys don't need Mommy's milk," Mommy caught his hand before he could push her again. “Now listen to me, Agent 1901 is a very private name. I don’t want to ever hear you say it again. Do you understand?”
“Let me go,” Baby cried. “Or I’ll tell Bad Man on you”
“Stop it, Baby,” Mommy never raised her voice.
She only did it once before. Baby couldn’t remember that much of it, but he remembered her screaming, and crying into a phone. Then after that, she rammed it into a machine she called Blender. That’s why soupy fruit was gone.
“Stop it, Mommy!” Baby screamed right back, which marked the first day Baby stood up to Mommy. And boy was Mommy boiling like Mr. Pot on spaghetti night.
“You know what?” Mommy pulled Baby off her lap. “Baby day is over.”
“No,” Baby cried. “Mommy, please. I’ll be a good boy.” Mommy walked around Baby, packing up his comic strip.
What scared Baby was that he couldn’t see her face. Mommy was a lot taller than him. So, when she stood up, and blocked him off, tears began forming at his eyes. As Baby continued to follow her around crying, Mommy tossed his dish in the sink with a clank, and turned to the bed.
“Mommy, no!” Baby screamed. “Please don’t leave Baby on Baby day,”
Mommy turned her back on him, pulling the covers over her body. Baby tried his best to rip them off, but Mommy was much stronger than he was. His fist clasped around the top, but was quickly butted back by her own. His crying got so bad, Baby couldn’t fight her anymore. All he could do was let his body react to what was going on.
“I’m alone,” Baby heaved, “Mommy left again,”
Baby stepped away from the mattress, with his hands trembling at his side. He had to spend the whole day alone, like when he was three. He hated that day. What would he do?
Thankfully the warm hold of Mommy wrapped around Baby in the nick of time.
“I’m sorry,” Mommy whispered in his ear. “I’m so sorry,” she kept repeating.
Baby never cried that hard before. Thankfully Mommy stayed with him through it all. Mommy was even there when Baby woke up the next morning. She was at the edge of Mrs. Pillow, with a plate of egg and muffin, and a cup of orange juice.
“Are you hungry Baby?” she soothed. “I made you a big breakfast.”
Baby smiled hungrily at all the new foods he rarely got to eat. “Eggy?” using one finger to poke at it, Baby giggled.
“Do you forgive me Baby?” Mommy rubbed her nose against his. “Mommy was being mean last night.”
Baby sipped some of his juice, after taking a bit of egg. Everything tasted so different. This is what fresh tasted like?
“Can I eat this tonight?” Baby supposed.
“Yes. You can eat whatever you’d like tonight.”
