" All that we had was necessary," he whispered in her direction. " But you and you're friends wanted to the play cards. Test the boundaries. A storm is coming, Malina. Something much bigger than any of us. You think that was hell?" he laughed, "Now is the time to play god. This is the moment you've been waiting for."
"Play god?" " Come on, don't pretend like you haven't tried it." his hands brushed between her thighs, " Now listen to me," Malina looked towards Kellan. He was smiling, even laughing. His deep voice breaking through the room. "He has the answers. He's been keeping it from us for years. He knows what's out there. Beyond the next galaxy. Very far away. And he won't tell anyone." " Take your hand," she whispered. " He went through six days of interrogation. Six days," he continued to rub her. " Starving. Bleeding. His just wouldn't talk. After the third day he adapted, like humans do. Eventually, I found a way to break him. I brought in pictures of his family. We even got some nice ones of your sister. At that point he was practically begging for us to kill him." Kellan took a sip of his glass. "We got a few words for him that day." He placed the glass on a counter. " He told me that we, as humans, were like ants. Ants that had an ant bed in the middle of a hurricane. Then he asked me a question." His hand slipped from between her legs. Malina watched Kellan whisper something to Swift. " How would you explain to an ant how to work a computer? Or how to drive a car? How? This lead me be to believe that he has it. " Kellen starred Malina dead in the eye. "He knows who else is here?" "No. He knows why we're here," " It is not you're fault. We know what we did wrong." Malina looked at Kellan with streaks of tears running down her face. He was one of very few people to see her cry. The reason was important. Chadwick was dead. Just like that. When the moment happened, she didn't flinch. She carried on with the mission, but as soon as she got inside the car, Malian broke. The tears just wouldn't stop. Kellan drove in silence, not wanting to disturb her. "Take me back," she whispered suddenly. He stared over towards her. "I don't think you need to see the body," he lectured. "You went back for Ashley. Let me go, to warn him. I don't care what time it is. Just take me to him. His son needs a father." Kellan gripped the steering wheel. "It's not that easy," "You did it more than three times. Just let me give him a warning. That's it." She was stern, like the tears on her face weren't there. Although, Kellan understood how desperate she was, he still shook his head. " You told me he knew he was going to die. Which means there is a possibility that it failed." "Then let this be my last chance. I'll fix it." she promised. "What happened to you're hair?" Chadwick needed an ice breaker, she hadn't looked him in the eye since she appeared at his side. Although, the question lingered in the air for a bit, it got her to look in his eyes.
"I got tired of looking like her," her French was perfect. Her lips were still swollen from the brutal beating that happened just a few days ago. "Her?" Chadwick stood in front of Malina in a protective manner, as a few onlookers began to notice. "I have a twin sister," she whispered looking at her shoes. "She looks like me. Or I look like her," Chadwick slipped his hand through hers, slyly taking her old suitcase. Along with his own, he placed them both down for inspection. "Do looks matter that much to you?" "It got me raped," with a flinch, he slowly turned around towards her. " Never do I want to hear a word like that fall out of you're mouth again. Do you hear me?" his voice was sharp, and so serious. It didn't startle her. She was used to it. "I can say whatever I like." "Then you will not me accompanying me, Miss Greene," and just like that he yanked her suitcase off of the rack. "Get your things and leave," "Put it back down," she hissed. "This is what I want. As long as I am still living no one will get in the way of that. No one," "I'm not going to let you out there if you forgot how to load a gun,"
Malina clicked the hinge, released the butt, and ejected the magazine. With a roll of her fingers she placed a single bullet beside it. "Don't doubt my skill," "That doesn't prove a single thing," He noticed a look of anger cross her face. " A man once came in to our house to kill my father. He didn't know I was upstairs playing. He also didn't know that I knew where my father kept his Beretta 90mm. I shot him three times before my step mother yelled for me to stop. That gun was an antique, which meant it needed to be reloaded with every single shot. I was seven," |
