Mommy told him about people like him. Big people, little people, mean people, and nice people. She told him about a man. A man would one day become Baby, a boy. A woman once was a girl. She told him about all types of people and genders. But what Mommy never told him was how to act when he’d come across one.
“Do you have another name?” the man pulled his beanie further down on his forehead. His lips were crackly from the white sugar. “Not that Baby isn’t a great name already.”
Baby paused in his tracks to gawk at a couple of fish beneath the layer of frozen water,” Woah,” he mouthed. “What are they?”
“Fish? There fish.” Baby grinned from ear to ear. “You’ve never seen a fish?”
“I ate a fish,” he replied pointing to food chomper. “I guess fish never seen me either. Hi,” Baby waved at them frantically. “Have they ever seen a boy?” the man pulled the gun strap higher on his shoulder.
“I don’t know,” his eyes squinted north. “We close?”
“ No. I still have to get to know you a little better,” Baby carried on.
